Milk & Dairy Tanker Distribution

Why Choose TP Niven for Milk & Dairy Transport

At TP Niven, we deliver on our promises. With decades of experience in dairy transport, we specialise in collecting milk from farms across the UK and delivering to processing centres across Scotland and England. Our service is trusted by leading producers and processors alike, handling a significant share of the UK’s milk supply with efficiency, reliability, and care.

Industry-Leading Scale & Coverage

We collect and transport around 1.2 billion litres of milk every day—equivalent to 8–9% of the UK’s total supply. In Scotland, we move an impressive 60% of the nation’s milk, making us one of the most trusted names in dairy logistics.

DTAS Accredited for Peace of Mind

As proud members – and Vice Chair – of the Dairy Transport Assurance Scheme (DTAS), we meet the highest industry standards for safety, compliance, and quality. Our accreditation ensures that every collection and delivery is handled with professionalism and consistency.

In addition, we also carry out independent audits of dairy companies through DATS, helping to maintain and promote best practice across the industry.

Organic Accreditation

We also hold Organic accreditation, with SOPA (Scottish Organic Producers Association) covering our Lockerbie operations and the Soil Association covering Charlton Adam. This ensures our service meets the highest standards for handling organic milk across the supply chain.

Efficient, High-Capacity Fleet

Approximately 85-90% of all milk that we is collect is transported by 44-ton vehicles, capable of lifting an additional 8,500 litres per route. This investment in high-capacity vehicles reduces journeys, improves efficiency, and helps lower costs for our customers.

Tailored Service for Every Customer

No two dairy operations are the same, which is why we provide a service tailored to your exact needs and requirements. Whether you operate a family-run farm or supply on a national scale, we’ll deliver a flexible and dependable transport solution that works for you.

Our Commitment to Sustainability & Innovation

At TP Niven, we believe in progressive, environmentally responsible transport. We’re continually investing in ways to reduce our carbon footprint and future-proof our fleet.

  • Efficient Emissions: From fuel-efficient vehicles to optimised routes, we’re always seeking smarter, greener ways to operate. We’re also working with First Milk and Nestle in reducing CO2 by using HVO fuel, this reduces CO2 by 80%.
At our Dalbeattie and Stranraer sites, we utilise front-loading vehicles that eliminate the need to tranship milk. This improvement saves approximately 4,000 working hours each year and reduces emissions by around 10,000 kg of CO₂.
  • Electric Vehicles: We’re exploring the next generation of transport to further reduce emissions. Our current electric vehicle is charged with renewable electricity and when an EV is introduced at our Dalbeattie base, it will be supported by on-site solar panels to further enhance our sustainability efforts.
  • Policy & Progress: Through DTAS and Dairy UK, we lobby the Department of Transport to raise the weight limit to 46 tonnes, a change that could reduce vehicle numbers by 5% and significantly cut CO₂ emissions across the industry.
