Local Company Wins Top Award

Palnackie, Castle Douglas based TP Niven lifted the Road Haulage industry’s prestigious Scottish Haulage Company of the Year award at the annual Transport News Scottish Rewards presentation ceremony held in Glasgow on Friday 6th November.

The popular breakfast celebration, now in its 16th year, attracted 600 industry guests and filled the banqueting suite of the Crowne Plaza hotel. Speakers at the event included Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Justice Kenny MacAskill MSP.

It would take a brave soul to start up a haulage company in today’s economic climate, but imagine founding a transport company when Britain was experiencing a general strike!

Yes, despite the major challenges in 1926, the winners of this year’s Scottish Haulage Company of the Year award have worked hard over three family generations since then, to develop a highly successful business.

Diversity is a word that comes up often when looking at this Galloway based concern, and their ability to offer a variety of transport solutions often at short notice.

Now operating from three strategically placed depots across south west Scotland, our winning firm runs a fleet of around 50 red liveried trucks which haul a variety of trailer makes.

The boss here puts his family firm’s longevity down to continually applying the integrity of his founding grandfather’s principles and he says quite simply ‘we do what it says on the side of our truck.’

T P Niven, the Transport News Scottish Haulage Company of the Year 2010.
